Today we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi, where we celebrate and honor the Real Presence of Jesus, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist. The Church teaches that the Eucharist is the Source and Summit of our life, the beginning, continuing, and end of our life as Catholics. If this is to be true in our lives, this must also be true in our business lives as well. This begs a logical question...how do we make the Eucharist the source and summit of our business lives?
The great spiritual writers teach us that we must take time in quiet prayer and meditation to come to know and love our Lord and seek to become united with Him. As we become united with Him our souls begin to be filled with His presence in us because we remain recollected with God. The book the Soul of the Apostolate tells us that we then become like a deep reservoir that fills with God's grace to the point of overflowing on everything we do, even in our business lives. The great Eucharistic writers, like St. Peter Julian Eymard, teach us that we can make our entire lives Eucharistic, by becoming ongoing adorers of the Lord in the Eucharist and one of the principal ways to do this is a holy practice called Spiritual Communions.Â
In a spiritual communion you pray a prayer to receive the Eucharist spiritually into your heart. God will always honor this prayer and this increases the Eucharistic presence of our Lord within us. It also compliments and augments the times we receive the sacrament of the Eucharist in mass. It allows us to truly make the Eucharist the Source and Summit of our lives, even in our business lives. Jesus told us "abide in me and I will abide in you". There is no better way to abide in Jesus than through the Eucharist. The more we practice Spiritual communions, along with our Sacramental communions, the more He abides in us. Since Jesus tells us we can do nothing good without Him, having the Eucharist within us continually, enables us to have the grace to not only do good in business, but to be the fullness of who we can be, since we remain connected to the source of our lives, the source of all good, the source of all wisdom, the source of all good gifts, and the source, and the summit, of love itself.Â
Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, we thank you for giving Jesus the body and blood that He gives to us in the Holy Eucharist. On this Feast of Corpus Christi grant us the grace to not only full believe in His Real Presence, but to help us to make the Eucharist truly the source, the love and the summit of our lives, including our business lives.
